Welcome to Sweeter Than Honey Blog…Living Life and Loving God’s Word!
The purpose of this devotional blog is to encourage, inspire, equip, and challenge all women… wherever you are at in life and wherever you are at spiritually.
Whether you are single or married, with or without kids, my greatest desire is that you would draw closer to God and grow in your faith and trust in Him. My heart is that you would rely on him daily and experience the “sweetness” of his Word. That as you Live Life (with the craziness and busyness, and the ups and downs), you will Love God’s Word through it. And consequently, as you Live God’s Word, you will Love Life in fulfilling the purpose He has for you!
Why Sweeter than Honey? Psalm 119:103 says “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Did you know that honey is the only food that never spoils? Pretty cool if you think about it in relation to God’s word. Not only is God’s word sweet to us but it will also never spoil or go bad! David compares the Word of God to eating the most enjoyable thing he could think of- fresh honey straight from the honeycomb! [The Lord’s ordinances] “are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:10). Even Jeremiah shared “When your words came, I ate them, they were my joy and my heart’s delight.” (Jeremiah 15:16)
The word of God is so sweet to me. I absolutely love it! It encourages, teaches, disciplines, prods and pokes, and flat out challenges me personally to be a better wife, mother, and Godly woman. I certainly don’t have all the answers but what I do know is that I love and desire God and find myself looking forward to spending time with him. The more I read and study God’s word, the more I realize how much more I can learn. I am always blown away by the magnitude of truth, knowledge, wisdom and promises this book holds!
So I continue on this quest to learn and grow and pass on what I know in hopes of others learning and growing and passing on what they may know. I am continually trying (more like struggling) to connect a busy daily life full of a husband, kids, and a job with a quiet and intimate moment with my Lord to satisfy my ever increasing hunger for intimacy and growth with him.
So I ask that you would come and join me… “Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see- how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.” (Psalm 38:4 MSG)
About Taleen
I am a wife and mommy of 2 boys who require a lot of my time and energy while working a full-time job. Well, the boys I mean require a lot of time and energy but yes my husband too! How many of you know and agree that marriage certainly isn’t easy and does require a lot of work!
When I was single, I thought I was a pretty selfless person and then I got married and realized how selfish I really was. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the Lord entrusted and blessed me with children. And that’s when it became quite evident not only how selfish I really was but how selfish I truly am!
I am quite a structured person and have come to realize that God, although he is a God of order and details (as evident by the story of creation in Genesis 1), has a tendency to show me time and time again that he is in control and that my “structured” life must always be submitted to Him. I am a “To Do” list kind of girl and I am not sure how to explain it when I tell you what joy it brings me when I am able to cross things off my list! But the challenge comes when my “To Do” list becomes God’s “To Do” list” It really does throw a curve ball in my structured and planned out day! Anyone out there with me on this?
I am truly blessed to work and serve at Impact Church as the Women’s Pastor directing the Women’s Ministry and as the Financial Director. I am so thankful and consider it a great privelege to work in ministry and see the almighty power of Jesus change and transform lives!
My background and education in a nutshell…I was born in New Jersey and moved to California with my family when I was 13 years old because of my dad’s new job. Culture shock!!! Note: 8th grade is really not a good time to move your children from coast to coast. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiological Science and received my Master’s Degree in Sports Health Care from A.T. Still University. I completed a 2 year Bible curriculum course through Victory Leadership Institute and was licensed as a minister at my church.
I am married to Billy Horton, the most amazing Godly man! … who is always doing everything he can to provide and care for me and the boys. He is a man of great loyalty, character, discipline, and simply sold out for Jesus. (He even reads his bible late at night next to the oven light so he won’t wake any of us up!) Truly an example I want to follow. He is a professional baseball coach with the San Francisco Giants minor league organization and runs a baseball business called Cactus Athletic Camps.
We have 2 boys, Connor (10) and Bryce (8). Connor is my wise and cautious, relatively mellow child while Bryce is my little ambitious daredevil. They are the sweetest boys, but don’t get me wrong…2 young boys? …they do keep me on my tip toes and pretty much sap me of my energy at the end of each day! They have an unquenchable, insatiable love…Connor for garbage trucks and construction trucks…and Bryce for dinosaurs! My hope and prayer is that one day this kind of hunger and love will be translated to their love for Jesus. But for now you can find us parked in front of the next construction site in a nearby neighborhood, standing curbside 2x a week waiting for the garbage truck to come by, or playing at home with T-Rex and watching The Dinosaur Train!
